jalapeno cilantro homemade hummus recipe 2

for some reason i was really intimidated by hummus.
and yet, it’s something we buy, nearly every time we go to the store.
our absolute favorite hummus of all time is the
jalapeno cilantro hummus that we get a trader joes.
you will not have a better hummus, perhaps in all your life.
i saw this recipe here, from a blog friend and thought,
why not?
 we did ours in the vitamix, and it was perf.
if you use your other doo-hickey, i’m sure it works fine too…
most recipes say to use your awesome food processor.
i have no need for one of those anymore…

and i will be making this hummus weekly from now on,
cc slips this into sandwiches,
and i pull it out during naptime.
with pretzel crackers.
bar-none, the best way to go {if you don’t have pita, that is…}

jalapeno cilantro hummus

1-2 Jalepenos
1 tablespoons minced garlic

1/4 cup lemon juice
1-2 tablespoons olive oil

2 cans chickpeas

1/4 cup sesame tahini {in the peanut butter section, or the health food section of most stores– vital to the recipe}

1 teaspoon cumin
1 cup cilantro
salt n pepper to taste

directions

chop the jalapenos and throw in a skillet with the garlic on medium heat until toasty. the more seeds you leave it, the more heat you’ll maintain. if you are a more mild kind, go with just 1 pepper, or remove most of the seeds, and you’ll be fine. the rest of the ingredients go in the blender or food processor {if using a blender, they go in order listed so the liquids are at the bottom}. add in the jalapeno, garlic and salt and pepper to taste. while it’s mixing, you can add in more lemon and/or olive oil to thin it to the consistency you like.
