dear Boston,
some day you will ask me how we got your name,
and why your uncle keeps calling you “beans and wieners”
we haven’t been to boston,
and we don’t know much about the band…
there is a song we like called Boston
but the truth is,
 it perhaps isn’t that endearing at all.
i have a good friend i met while in DC a few years ago,
and his nephew is named Boston.
i fell in love with it.
it clicked with me.
even better was the “why” behind his name:
his mom and dad were looking for a “legit” name so they could call
their boy “Boss” for short.
the family kicked in, and “came up” with the name.
the story made me smile,
and i never forgot the name.
the truth is, B,
your name was picked out and in a spreadsheet of names
within a month after we were married.
lots of peeps probably think its crazy to be that set on a name, but it never got old for me.
lots of people don’t share their names early or want to name babies before they see them…
i could see myself with an infant named Boston, a little toddler named Boston, a teenager named Boston, a writer, a football player, a young dad…
and your dad agreed.
a man should have a name that he can do anything with.
{though he swears you will play tennis and golf.}
your middle name, nyle,
that one is special.
because g-pa clifford has been such a special part of us since we have been married
{staying in his house… watching his love story unfold like the movie, UP}
and because it’s your dad’s middle name as well,
it was our way of saying thanks.
and giving you a name to honor.
so when we would talk about starting a family,
we both would say,
“well, when Boston gets here…”
cause we knew it was going to be you.
hope you come soon, B.
we are sure ready…
