in a moment i will tell you how easy this cute mobile is to make.
but first, i will say that once completed, i never thought it would cause so much glee to see my monkey’s eyes light up. he was instantly reaching and beaming. and it was something i made!
i “unveiled” it on his “birthday” last week. {B is 7 months} and since i am the only one keeping track of those in-between milestones, i celebrated privately. just B and me.
you would have thought he opened a cake when i brought him out from his nap to see.
this weekend, i finally decided how to hang it and as i was doing so, i was already crafting the post in my head, “he never cries when he goes down cause he is just so mesmerized!” and “you wouldn’t believe how long he can stare at that beautiful thing!”
after i admired my latest and final touch of the room
{before we move in a few months anyway}, i put him to bed.
he rolled over, looked up and watched the colors gently twirling like falling leaves,
and for a moment, he was peaceful.
then he looked at me and completely broke down. big, huge, alligator tears of a very tired, anxious boy.
dangit, i thought. i was sure this was going to be one of those added bonus things…
so i started singing, like a usually do. i was not 2 seconds into our version of “somewhere over the rainbow” when he grabbed my finger, stopped mid-tear, and practically giggled with joy at me with the most innocent smile. his temples still wet, eyebrows pink. and his adoring eyes tracing mine.
needless to say, i forgot a few words.
turns out, i am the one. turns out, that when you need comfort and love and someone to sing to you or put arms around you, that’s my job.
not some silly little mobile that took me a month to finally finish…
i love you for that.
that really easy DIY mobile:
I used those quilting hoops {painted turquoise} and some fancy metal rings i found at the fabric store, some jewelry rings to fasten them together {i’m sure there is a better way to do this too}, and some fishing-line to tie them and hang them. {the paper is double-sided}
i used spray adhesive, but if i were to do it again, maybe i wouldn’t do that…. its just too sticky and gets everywhere…
yep, he ate that in the store… |
Very cool! It turned out just as you imagined it! Go Yu. I'm happy that Boston has taken to it as well.
So cute! Nice work!
Lovely. My granddaughter is 8 months – a fun time<br />Ann
