on saturday, because it was the first one in 3 weeks to have a husband not stuck at work,
we went to the pool!
it was B’s first time in the water…. and he appeared to enjoy it…
as i sat on the deck and watched Little Man blissfully splashing and kicking into his future of summers, i thought of all of the summers i have had in years past…
how those arizona summers were miserable unless you were in a pool. or in our case, running through sprinklers or filling a tarp-lined trampoline with water to slide around in like a kiddy pool. {or exploiting friends for pools and boats respectively….}
my best friend calli and i even went so far as to fill up large plastic laundry buckets with a hose and just sit in em. for hours. we thought that was the life. and that doesn’t seem that long ago…
and once a year, we would take a pilgrimage to the coast to visit the family in cali and take a much needed break from the 112 days and live like the other half lives….in beach weather.
{which for us meant parking our large white bodies in the sea of toned and tanned bodies armed only with a soggy box of wheat thins and cooler full of fresca. that, was the life.}
i hope B knows just how lucky he is to be on vacation for a while {hopefully for-ever}
and i am glad he gets to soak up the sun without soaking in sweat. and swim in a heated pool that still feels cool and perfect instead of a “cool” arizona pool that feels like 98 degrees on a good day….. otherwise, i don’t know that the kid would know what daylight is.
{sorry, arizonans. i think i am officially claiming to be a california girl.
and i will still sleep great at night doing so.}
Ugh I remember living in Vegas and my mom would drop me and a friend off at the Wet N Wild everyday durring the summer because it was so hot. Stay in CALI!
I feel the same way. I will always have a special place in my heart for Arizona because I was raised there and some of my family still lives there but I hope I never, ever have to live there again. Now that I've lived a few other places in the country I see how much more is out there than the bubble I grew up in! And the heat . . . oh, the heat. I'm in a bad mood for 6+ months.
