it was kind of a long week.
so we were hoping to get out and do something fun for labor day.
a kind of staycation, if you will.
we haven’t really done much as a new family,
so we found some fun things happening downtown and headed out for the day.
by the harbor they had the Festival of Sails…
cannon battles, raising sails, and the maritime museum.
most of the action took place on the star of india…
where i stayed for a few nights as a 5th grader in ELP.
it was pretty cook then too.
boss loves “pirate ships” so he even loved strolling passed to see the action…
and on one of the most hot and humid weekends,
we were happy to be by the water and breeze…
just 2 blocks south, once a year they hold the US Sand Sculpture Challenge…
they started on thursday, and judged them on sunday, so that by monday we can gawk at our leisure.
they were pretty incredible.
they had lots to do for kids too.
a huge sand castle building area, trampoline/bungees…
and on a warm day with a lot of noise,
lots for babies to do too…
and lots of food trucks.
we freakin love food trucks.
if you are ever in the area, there are a handful to try,
and year-round, they are usually near mira mesa high school on monday nights.
super Q has some of the best sweet potato fries we’ve had…
totally made our vacation…
the kids slept on the way home,
so we put em down, watched a movie,
then went to the pool to cool off, made dinner,
{for the first time in 8 weeks}
and rented another movie while eating our froyo
when it was just us again.
and now we want to retire.
Looks like a fun day at the harbor Meg. Happy to hear you are back into a routine, that always feels good. I am ready to retire too!
