i really wanted to post my little desk space all completed and set up,
but alas, it is a few details shy of perfect.
early this week, when I checked to see what the theme was this friday,
i was happy to see “before & after”
we {mostly just B and i} have been on adventure weekends so often lately,
that we haven’t had time to get to our projects…
and after my computer nearly keeled over on me,
we decided the desk has to happen.
i need a place to be permanent, so my millions of files can be backed up daily,
and my child can’t climb on the couch and pounce on the keys cause he thinks it’s cute…
i had the itch to finish this project,
so, while my sick husband sat on the couch and watched,
i at least painted the desk…
i used my loose recipe for chalk paint and whipped up a batch of this color in flat.
{behr premium plus in “cozumel”}
before i painted this vintage piece,
{that i found at a garage sale for $25…
from an old lady who had it as a little girl.}
she was happy to know it would be {cough} “restored…”
really this is more retro than vintage, but i digress…
i rubbed the smallest amount of vaseline on some of the gold edges because i really was sad to have to paint over them…
i literally just wiped it down with a damp cloth and then painted over it.
2 coats.
no sanding, no primer, no nothin.
{i have received lots of emails asking if it really works with no primer or sanding.
so now we know.}
we left the hardware as-is, because i love the real aged look.
then i rubbed on the smallest amount of my martha glaze in the grooves to make the detail show better, and slapped 2 coates of satin glaze on just the top to help protect it from scratching…etc.
in certain lights, i have to say it is almost blinding… but during the day, in the pretty window light, it is exactly what i wanted…
only 1 more week to go of the first foto friday!
round 2 will be starting up in a bit and guess what,
you are all invited!
stay tuned for how our linky party will go down,
but in the meantime,
check out these before & afters…
