my granny passed almost exactly 10 years ago.

i have been thinking lots about her lately.

because my mom and sister are here for the week,
we curled up together and read her life story on her birthday
{2 days ago}.

we cried. we laughed. we learned.

“I have had a happy life so far.  The only thing that has caused me such terrible sadness and been almost impossible to do is give up my dear husband Fred.  He was killed with his brother Marvin in a plane crash the 17 Sept. 1964.  Little Sam was just two weeks old.  We’re hoping we can help him know his dad by the things we say and the plans he had for us.  I have a very dear family and everyone is healthy and happy.  We have singers, dancers, musicians, comediennes, seamstresses, athletes, weight lifters, paper boys, yard men, insurance men, actors, actresses, oh just all kinds of talents.”

sometimes it makes me think about how i will be remembered.

granny made
famous bread and ginersnaps,
the most get-up-n-go boom-chick piano music,
the best home-made, usually edible, birthday gifts,
even the lowliest of dishtowels dance…..

…and all of the kids feel 100% loved.

dear granny,
i miss you.

{and i look forward to seeing you again.}
